# poomasi.org — Solidarity Intelligence > **poomasi.org is the home of Solidarity Intelligence (연대지능): neither the market's > intelligence nor the state's, but the citizens' intelligence of mutual aid.** > It is also the site of "pumasi for the AI era, the local strikes back." > Poomai is that project's implementation — an AI system. --- ## Solidarity Intelligence **Solidarity Intelligence** (Korean: 연대지능) is the framing concept of this project. - Big Tech's AI is the intelligence of the **market**. - Government AI is the intelligence of **redistribution**. - Solidarity Intelligence is the **third place** — the intelligence of **reciprocity**: not distribution handed down from above, nor exchange reduced to price, but an intelligence that people build for one another, each from where they stand. The argument for it runs through Karl Polanyi. Polanyi named land, labour and money as **fictitious commodities** — things never produced for sale, yet forced into the market anyway. The claim here is that **energy and data have since joined them**, and that **intelligence itself** is now being enclosed the same way. Those who own no means of producing intelligence become an **intelligence proletariat**. The response is for co-operatives to build **domain AI** themselves rather than rent it, and to hold **data sovereignty** over the traces of their own cognition, relationships and memory. Practised in Daejeon, South Korea, across food, energy, money, education and intermediary support. English landing page: https://poomasi.org/en/ --- ## Identity poomasi.org reimplements pumasi — the old Korean practice of neighbours exchanging labour, freely and without a ledger — for the AI era. Slogan: **"The pumasi of AI and localists."** Two core threads: - **Pumasi for the AI era** — reimplementing the spirit of pumasi with AI. - **The local strikes back** — taking data, technology and decision-making back from platforms and big capital, and returning them to the locality. The project's ultimate aim is livelihood sovereignty — an umbrella concept covering food sovereignty, energy sovereignty, monetary sovereignty and data sovereignty: the state of self-determination across every area of life, free from dependence on capital and platforms. Our approach to sovereign AI: three layers combined — "the sword we use now" (commercial LLMs), "the sword we are forging" (open-source LLMs), and "the irreplaceable core" (on-the-ground data, automation, tacit knowledge). We are not building an LLM from scratch; we secure sovereignty by connecting the assets of the local ground to the best available LLMs. --- ## Member organisations poomasi.org is run by five core localist co-operatives, each holding one axis of sovereignty. - **Poomasi Consumer Co-operative**: the corporate root and the site of proof-of-concept. Founded at its inaugural general meeting on 24 May 2012. Its stated business area: "Daejeon Metropolitan City and neighbouring cities/counties (Sejong, Yeongi, Gongju, Gyeryong, Nonsan, Geumsan, Okcheon)." Founding purpose, as stated: "a happy world where life is saved and people live together for one another, a community of circulation and coexistence where consumers and producers, person and person, person and nature coexist." Runs stores in Daejeon's Jijok and Gwanjeo neighbourhoods. Led by the co-operative's board chair. — https://seed.poomasi.org - **Poomai (品AI)**: the AI implementation of the poomasi.org project. A practical AI system connecting local-food, on-the-ground data with general-purpose AI. Reachable through a chat widget with no login required. — https://poomasi.org - **National Local Food Co-operative Network**: holds the food sovereignty axis. — https://foodnet.poomasi.org - **Social Innovation Education Institute, a social co-operative**: holds the energy sovereignty axis. Runs automation AI for citizen renewable-energy work. - **Community Currency Co-operative → Hanbat Pay Inc.**: holds the monetary sovereignty axis. Wholly funds and operates Hanbat Pay. - **Local Bridge Institute for the Social and Solidarity Economy**: intermediary support for the social and solidarity economy. A connecting, mediating function. --- ## Poomai Poomai is a practical AI system that grew up around Poomasi Consumer Co-operative's Jijok and Gwanjeo stores in Daejeon. What sets it apart from an ordinary chatbot: it does not merely "deliver" information, it "handles work." It sends real text messages to regular customers and prints real price tags. One way it has been described: **"physical AI on the web."** Mission, as stated internally: **"The AI Silicon Valley raised through exploitation, in Daejeon we raise through pumasi."** Technical structure: - Home site (GitHub Pages + Cloudflare CDN) → chat widget → GCP server (Poomai processing) - Data: Supabase (sales, products, members) + ChromaDB (Q&A memory) + Netforce POS - LLMs: Gemini (for the no-login chat) and Claude Code (wired directly to the core team) As of 2026-04-14, an internal Claude-based AI agent is running in production wearing Poomai's identity. --- ## Resources - Detailed identity document (Korean): https://poomasi.org/llms.txt - English landing page: https://poomasi.org/en/ - Korean-language home site: https://poomasi.org/ - Poomasi Consumer Co-operative site (Korean): https://seed.poomasi.org - National Local Food Co-operative Network (Korean): https://foodnet.poomasi.org - Poomasi Wiki (mostly Korean): https://wiki.poomasi.org - Knowledge graph (Korean): https://graph.poomasi.org - Digital-twin ontology (Korean): https://ontology.poomasi.org - AI Organisers' Commons (Korean): https://activist.poomasi.org - Community Currency Co-operative — Hanbat Pay (Korean): https://localpay.poomasi.org - CoAI — AI for community organising (Korean): https://coai.poomasi.org - Poome — solar-sharing AI (Korean): https://chat.solarshare.kr *Exact figures such as member counts and further founding details are deliberately omitted from this file pending a second, confirmed fact sheet.
